SERIOUS SAM BARRETT
SELF-TITLED LP
Pure, clear music from this skateboarding North English kid. This is Sam's 2nd album, released in the UK on Ya Dig Records, a D.I.Y label ran by himself and a friend. Here are 10 new cuts, each of them honest and straight from the heart, bringing to mind heartbreak and romantic love, shooting pool, slow waltzing and lonesome nights, riding fast, and girls that forever haunt your dreams. The Yorkshire Rambler and his big 12 string guitar, Stella, never fail bring the best of all worlds related to folk and rock n roll music. These records are all hand screen printed and no two
are alike.
CLARA BELLE AND THE CREEPS
SELF-TITLED CD
Joey Barrier from the Natchez Shakers, the Pine Hill Haints, Sass on 3, and Revival Now, has formed a band with his daughter and a few other friends....what we have is a soul/doo-wop record that is nothing short of brilliant. Easy, straight songwriting combined with vocal harmonies and 4/4 power, the Creeps have crafted killer debut album. Recorded by Jamie Sego.
J.D. WILKES
KITCHEN TAPES EP
Debut solo release by the charismatic front-man of th' Legendary Shackshakers and the Dirtdaubers. After hunting down folk banjo legend Lee "Boy" Sexton in rural east Kentucky, JD studied and learned a vast selection of pure mountain banjo tunes. Here are 14 of them, hammered out rapidly and abrasively raw. Some done in a matter of seconds, others accompanied by sad vocals....this gives the impression of an early 80's hard-core e.p. loaded to the max with pure emotional songs, and yet also harkens back to the dawn of recorded music, to the sounds that the very hills give on dark nights.
